Cheryl, can I just confirm you are looking for a meter cancel and not a slogan cancel? The latter are on that other site by the dozen.

re: wanted meter cancel

Hey Cheryl:

For those of us less-informed (i.e. ME!!!) could you post an example and/or description of a meter cancel (and/or a slogan cancel)?

I don't know what these terms mean, but it's possible I have something lurking about.

P.S. We had people over for a cross-country skiing and chili dinner this weekend. One of my wife's longest BFFs gave me the portion she received of her mom's stamp collection, which included some Royal Tour covers, since we are both big time fans of "The Crown" and similar shows.

I am setting up an album of such things, but if I know what you are looking for I may be able to set aside something.

Cheers, Dave.

re: wanted meter cancel

The meter cancel has an arch ROYAL VISIT TO CANADA over a crown On either side of the crown are the initals GR and ER The meter cancel is followed by a circular cancel (Toronto or Montreal ) and the square meter postage of .02 cents. According to Larry paige`s collection it is called a commerative postage meter. There is also also a Royal Button Meter cancel for commercial use. The colours used were red and purple. Sorry I don`t have a sample to scan and post
They are meter cancels I believe a slogan cancel is placed over a regular stamp There are no stamps on these as the meter includes the postage prepaid.
Thanks Cheryl

re: wanted meter cancel

Perhaps the correct term-of-art is not 'meter cancel' but 'meter imprint'?
