General Philatelic/Newcomer Cnr : Best way to trade stamps

Hello friends,

Quick question: Do you know of a good way to trade stamps with others? I've been putting my best copy of a particular stamp in an album and putting duplicate copies in a glassine envelope. Is there a good way to share what you have to offer in addition to your wish list so it can be shared easily online?

Before you say it—yes, I know there's a thread on Stamporama where I can post stamps I'm willing to trade, but it doesn't give me the tools to post my wish lists out or update them easily as I add new stamps to my collection.

The best tool I can find thus far is going to www.stampsmarter.com and printing out a checklist. Do you know of a way to expedite this process even more?

Thanks in advance for your time!

Ben

Ben, if you can scan your wish list into a .pdf, you can upload it to the trading classified section as an image. Updates to that list can be as easily done.

You can try Colnect. I have only just started using this site and I haven't done any trades yet, so I can't comment on the trading portion. It is a way to document your collection and create a want list and post what you have for trade.

Piggybacking on Dan's suggestion, it should be easy to locate potential trading partners and after contacting them to establish interest in trading, to attach your wish list and offer list as Word documents. I believe it is fairly common to create such lists using Scott catalog numbers when seeking to trade US for US stamps, or any other types of stamps with North American collectors. This obviously is not the only "easy" way to share and to update these lists, but it has worked for me over the years.

It can be as simple as listing your duplicates in Stamporama's auction and approvals! Post your stuff for sale and take the proceeds and buy other members stamps the same way.

Trading or not, I believe need lists are an essential part of putting together a respectable collection.
After sharing your lists with a potential trading partner it is easy enough to sort out and see what stamps are available for trade and then share scans of the the stamps to agree upon trading value. All of this can easily be done thru email.
