I recently purchased several Canadian semi-official airmail stamps for my worldwide airmail collection , which I find to be very interesting. I would love to read up and learn more about the history of the pilots and the various private companies that contracted with the Canadian Post Office to deliver airmail to the remote northern regions during the 1920s and 30s.
Anyone know of any good books and/or articles written about this subject that you can recommend?
re: Books/articles on Canadian Semi-Official Airmail Stamps
Hi Chris,
I have several of these stamps, and like them very much. With many, many, many more pressing concerns, I have not the time to research them the way you describe....yet.
So, thank you for posting the question I would be asking in a couple of years! I'm really looking forward to the responses you get.
Dennis
re: Books/articles on Canadian Semi-Official Airmail Stamps
Hi ChrisW
There is a publication titled "The Pioneer and Semi-Official Air Mails of Canada 1918-1934" by C. A. Longsworth Dames published by the Unitrade Press in 1995, the same people who publish the "Unitrade Specialized Catalogue of Canada". Try to Google their website and there may be some still available?

re: Books/articles on Canadian Semi-Official Airmail Stamps
The definitive work on the subject is probably "The Airmails of Canada and Newfoundland", part of the American Airmail Catalogue published by the American Airmail Society. There is one chapter devoted to these issues (Pg 37 to 77).
"THE AIRMAILS OF CANADA AND NEWFOUNDLAND
552-page priced catalogue of Canadian Pioneer flight covers,SCADTA, Semi-Officials, Government flight covers, as well as specialized Sections of airship, crash, balloon, helicopter, anniversary, aerogrammes and air letter sheets, Canadian Forces and Warplane Heritage covers. Included also are historical Sections on Canadian Air Mail Field cancels, airmail rates, endorsements and "Jusqu'a" markings, astrophilately, and priced listings of Newfoundland airmail stamps and flight covers.
Hardbound -- $35.00
Special price to AAMS members -- $28.00"
A bargain at $35.00

I have a copy of the book Bujutsu recommended. I can vouch for it's excellence. A great read. I purchased my copy cheaply from eBay together with a few other journals. The postage is usually the rough part !!

You will find just about EVERYTHING you need about Canada semi-postal airmails here.
Scroll down to the falschung member thread - every semi-postal is described with history and images of planes etc. - a great resource.
It's all set up in chronological order - possibly better than any book.
It does not cover flights & pilots for that you need the "The Airmails of Canada and Newfoundland" book mentioned
