I am sorry to report that "stampmanjack" (Jack Leiby) was diagnosed with cancer on November 2. 2017. On November 10, 2017 Jack passed away.
Jack was a long time member of the Quad City Stamp Club and a good friend. He was one of our "weekend dealers". He was always willing to open each lot at our club auctions for a bid of "one dollar". Sometimes, he won the lot with that bid!
So sad to learn Jack passed away. He had planned to attend our club's show last October but had to cancel at the last minute because he wasn't feeling well. I had no idea how sick he was.
I will really miss him - he was a lot of fun to talk with, always had a great story and time to chat, set stuff aside that he knew I might like, just a great guy.
I agree, Sally. Jack was a great guy. I only bought stamps from him a few times at eastern Iowa stamp shows, but we always had a nice conversation. He loved stamp collecting, and I am happy to see that he was trying to buy more stamps from Brian in Australia right up to the very end. (I have decided that's how I want to go out.) I am also sad, that after all the work that he and the Quad City Stamp Club have done over the years in their many Stamp-Out-Cancer Auctions, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for the American Cancer Society, that he succumbed to the dreaded cancer himself. Thanks, George, for the link to his obituary, and your next Stamp-Out-Cancer Auction, April 28th, 2018 should be dedicated in Jack's memory. My thoughts and prayers go out to Jack's family and to all of you.
