Hi, I am an old collector wishing to resume the hobby. I am currently collecting pre1940 Romanian stamps. My question is what stamp catalogue should I purchase for this collecting area. Thank you to all members with your opinions
That's an interesting speciality - I hope you'll find the time to post some of your thoughts and ideas about pre-1940 Romania, and show some of the best stamps (my collection starts at May 1940.) A quick glance at my catalogue suggests the country was heavily royalist in the 1930s - and this continued during the war years, at the end of which the dictator Antonescu was seen off.
I believe the last King of Romania (Michael - first seen on 1928 stamps) is still alive!
My grandparents emigrated from Romania in 1922. They were part of the great Hungarian exodus from Transylvania after the Allies redrew maps across Europe. I'd be speaking Hungarian and dancing to some of the most inspired fiddle music the world has ever heard if this hadn'thappened.
And welcome. I'm looking forward to learning more.
David
