In 1882, Iran produced three stamps:
5c- blue
10c pink
25c green
All engraved boarder-
How do I tell if its real or not. All I hear and read is 'Forgeries abound'. I made this cheat sheet for all to use-please when you find a fake one throw it away or mark it as a fake.

re: Fake Vs. Real On Iran Scott# 50, 51, and 52-Easy and quick for you to save money.
Great information...so my 5 an 10 are genuine (I also have a fake 5)...but my 25 is not genuine (for 1881 and 1882 )...but I noticed that every 25 seem to have the vertical lines on the RHS well defined, so I wonder if they are all counterfeits?
Does the same rule applies to the 1882-84 stamps (scott 53-53a)? And the 1885-87 surcharged officials?
Thanks

And please don't take me wrong, I love this kind of exchange and learning--
These are the common-ebay, hipstamp, oh gosh, stampworld, Iran stamps that are offered for sale all the time-
In one of the article's coming I give descriptive examples of how to tell-especially those two in the middle, scott#53, pictured above--with picture and arrows, circles and a paragraph on the back of each one-WAIT! That's a song, I digress. but seriously. Wait for the article you will love it. Easy to check and easy to tell--
The best thing I go by-#1 RHS INNER FRAME LINE-bottom line, if its strong game over, move on. Don't even blink. just click onto the next stamp-trust me. Condition will throw your maybe stamp down to the dollar range every time-

I probably would not buy those two. On each, the groundworks look right, but that could be a light inking. The vertical lines on the right side look too strong to me. Even though they tend to be a bit light, could also be due to a light inking. Cancellations are known to be forged on these stamps as well. It is a common practice for forgers to apply a fake cancel over their forgeries at the locations where verification between fake and original is paramount to make a determination.
With fakes of Iranian stamps outnumbering genuine stamps by factors of 20 or more to 1, anything that makes me even remotely suspicious is enough to make me stay away from buying such a stamp.

Well here is the page from my album..and thanks to you Lee, I see I am batting around 50% on genuine vs counterfeits (now noted with "c")
Great information. Iran counterfeits are discouraging most of us to collect them!

Ralph, it may be a discouragement for many to collect these stamps, but I like the hunt for them. Sometimes genuine stamps show up in the bulk lots that sellers offer calling all fakes. Of course in an image of a bulk lot, it is difficult to even see all the stamps let alone make out the tell-tale signs between good and bad.

Would you like a valid two dot error or a fake two dot error?
Pictures are for your enjoyment-not selling these-just seen that empty space at the bottom of you page and I just worked those two stamps -hahaha how cool!

Awsome..I always had my doubts about these. Now I see where my mistake is.
So I have to look in my duplicates, and see what else I may have mislabeled.
