This morning I received an email from an individual in Troy, Michigan. the individual is asking for assistance in identifying some US stamps passed down from his grandmother. Most seem prior to 1940. but for some reason he wants to get someone to look at what may be a Scott 596. (2016 is $100,000 - $150,000 depending on cancel) I have told him via email that the likelihood of a 596 is very, very remote.

I have also told him that the only acceptable expertization of the stamp must come from a recognized service - with a certificate. Otherwise the stamp will be treated on the market as a common stamp with a CV of $0.25. But he would still like a stamp collector take a look

Is there someone in the Troy, Michigan area who would like to take a look at stamps? If so, please send me a message through the SOR system.

Thanks,

George

As someone once said, "Nevermiiiiind".

The contact just emailed me again and let me know that even though his cell phone has a Michigan Area Code, and his office is in Troy, Michigan, and the bank he works for is in Troy, he actually lives in Moline, IL!

I know enough knowledgeable collectors in the area to handle his questions!

Thanks anyway! Sorry for the excitement.

I'll let you know what the locals think of the stamp.

George

Of course it's a 596. Everyone knows that when you have a stamp, and don't know anything about stamp collecting the stamp is always the rarest of them all, because the rare stamps are actually very common. It's the cheap, common stamps that are the rarest of all. At Wits End
