Just wondering if any of our members collect postcards or pictures of the Royal Tour of King George Vl and Queen Elizabeth (Queen Mum) to Canada in 1939...I am always checking for a source of these items
Thanks for any help Cheryl
re: postcards or pictures of the Royal Tour of 1939
Hey Cheryl. Serendipitous timing!
I was organizing a box of covers just now and found this near the bottom. Looks like the lady from whom The Hoard originated was a bit of a Royal buff and traded with literally hundreds of people worldwide starting in 1935 (the earliest cover I've found. There are some Coronation issues too.
I haven't seen any others (and can't promise to dig deeply any time soon) but thought you might want to see this.
Newfoundland was not yet part of Canada and I found it interesting they called this "The Royal Landing". I haven't Googled it so have no idea of what their timeline was and where they visited.

Holyrood was the final destination of the Royal tour . The couple visited St John`s as well There are 2 distinct cancels for the visit to Nfld. Our member Bailey is the man with so much knowledge of the Royal Tour. He has helped me get my collections in order

I believe that is Holyrood.
I too am a collector of British Royalty. A fascinating collection to create.

re: postcards or pictures of the Royal Tour of 1939
Re the Newfoundland visit by the Royal couple here is some additional detail--the last day of the Royal tour of Canada and USA(in the USA from June 7th until return to Canada on June 12th)was Halifax on June 15th.The Royal Couple was hosted at a luncheon by the Province of Nova Scotia after which their Majesties delivered very emotional farewell addresses that were broadcast across North America and around the world.Later that day the Royal party left Halifax on the "Empress of Britain"They landed at Holyrood on Conception Bay in Newfoundland around 10:30 am on June 17.The cancel shown on the cover in the earlier post was designed for this occasion. They then motored to St. John's.After touring the city they drove back to Conception Bay and at 8:30 pm they departed for home on the Empress of Britain arriving in Southampton on June 22nd.
A special cancel for the visit to St.John,s was also used on June 17th--it was similar in design to the Holyrood cancel but with the text being "issued to Commemorate visit of their Graciious Majesties to Britain,s Oldest Colony-ST.John,s-!7 June 1939 "
My scanner is down so perhaps someone with a cover with this postmark could post a scan.
Note --both the Holyrood and the ST.John.s postmarks were for use as day of issue cancels on Newfoundland Scott # 249 issued on June 17th to commemorate the visit.
Probably too much info but some of the "British Royalty " fans might appreciate the additional detail
Harold
