These are without a challenge my favorite German stamps. Printed on copper engraved plates. Stamps showing the Reichs main post office and Genius (Roman God) representing the union of North and South Germany, taken from a painting by Anton von Werner
.
The copper plates were a soft material to use so there a lot of flaws you can search for.
These stamps were overprinted in 1920
A few of these have horizontal perforated margins on either the right or left side.

"Q/ So what were the advantages of using copper plates? Availability post-Versailles?"
The copper plates were very (checking google translator) bendable, as these stamps were printed in the offset Lithographic method. Many materials in Germany were scarce during 1916-1923. The first world war and inflation had a huge negative effect on the country. By using copper and the offset lithography method, printers didn´t have to worry to much about the quality of the paper and could print large amounts in a relatively short time. With this method they had a very good quality print, the color would be very even and without any squeezed Lines. Later the copper sheets or plates were replaced by thin metal sheets which were much not as expensive.
Most stamps but not all were printed in the surface printing process. These stamps had squeezed lines, filled engravings ,etc.

I hope my explaining in the English language isn´t as bad as I'm reading it.
Here is one that I have not yet put into my collection. A large scratch on building at the bottom of the right. I would think that a small object got into the roles and damaged the plate. I am still looking for a second one to confirm.
