re: Germany 648a CTO?
I can't think but that you are confused with the catalog value of this stamp. I don't have my post 1940 cats available but I would guess the stamp is minimum cat value. All the stamps in the set are very low value. I have one with nice cancel but if were worth anywhere near $160, I probably would have noted it.
The stamp will have to be expertized to validate if the cancel was contemporaneous and the stamp postally used. Without that, unused value will apply. The same holds true for all used German stamps with a used value that is higher than the unused value.
Thanks for mentioning that Randy. The actual perforation measurement should be 14x14¼. Scott has kept this annoying practice of rounding off to the nearest ½ for most pre-1970s perforation measurements.
Randy, I agree that is how it looks but it measures perf 14 on all 4 sides..
Michael - thanks, that is what I needed to know. Not worth having it formally expertized but I'll take it to the next show and ask a dealer friend who will know. It certainly has all the appearances of a CTO.
I was looking for a price point to list at and using a low percentage of mint CV seems the way to go when in doubt.
that seems reasonable, Carol, especially quoting the TWO prices AND your suspicion that it might be a CTO, thereby negating any of the price differential and reducing its value as an unused stamp.
post here IF you list on our pages.... we have a lot of German collectors
