The mail carriers who don't want to do their job and stash the mail in their homes should have all their bills not properly handled so that they can deal with the bill collectors, higher interest rates, late fees and all the other hassles that come with non-delivered mail.
They get paid good money to do nothing. The lazy SOBs. They should get the maximum sentence, and also have to pay all the bills of those whose mail they refused to deliver.
There was a similar case some years back, this time in Chicago and the guy had a bedroom full of undelivered mail. My wife just had to argue with AT&T over a June phone bill that we never received, she managed to get the late charges drop, had it been a CC Co. well not likely. This postwoman may get fire and good luck finding another job.
It's not just one or two rogue carriers. Sometimes the whole bunch of local postal people play little games and cover stuff up. Whenever my regular carrier is on vacation we get mostly circulars and other low class stuff every day until I call and raise cain, Then my box is jammed after a day or so. I was tracking an Ebay purchase recently that showed it arrived at the PO near here on a Sunday. It was still sitting there on Wednesday when I called to threaten a complaint to a postal inspector. I was told they are 'understaffed'. Maybe so but that doesn't mean they have to pull this stuff.
That's very interesting, but it is different than mail clerks not delivering the mail and storing it in their homes.
At the beginning of mail delivery, it was the common practice that the recipient of the mail was the one who paid the postage. Everything came postage due. If the recipient refused to pay the delivery fee, the mail was returned to the post office, but not returned to the sender. Obviously that was an inefficient way to handle mail, so the process was changed to where the sender paid the postage.
