I have said this in another post but just want to say in a new thread how pleased I am that I joined StampoRama.
I can honestly say with the little time I have been a member and the replies I have had to posts, how it has now changed my outlook and indeed stamp collecting views.
I cant say I thought I was a novice but it certainly has made me feel like one on experience of joining.
It brings me back to my first thought about my main collecting of Postal Commemorative Society and Fleetwoods that I wished I lived in the States to do my collecting and indeed research because I am sure this would be an advantage to that cause.
I have emailed people with no response as of yet, to this Fleetwood quest of mine and can only wait and see if anything comes of that, if not I shall just go back to using Ebay as a resource for information and it will only be when I see a Full collection that someone sells on there that I will maybe get the answer.
So thank you StampRama and will still join discussions.
Hey, You guys have been just great I just wanted say thank you in a post my friend, I shall always be looking in here but butting into conversations about American stamps I probably will upset folk.
O.K you been perfect, you have the added bonus of being a woofer fan of the breed I like
No I can honestly say I have had more fun in here than my own stamp forum in the Uk which sort of says something
I understand that even asking about covers in a stamp forum is not a good idea
but I felt it was worth a try. As I say I have sent 3 emails out on replies from in here and see where I get with those
If they do not turn anything up I shall try and write to a Postal Museum or try and find a FDC forum in the states. Thers always a good thing in chatting with peeps across the pond you never know who you might make friends with?

I wouldn't say that! Many of us are into all kinds of stuff, it's always worth a shot. So far most of my questions have been answered by the brain trust here. I've always had an interest in US FDCs, and any old postal history on cover. I have a 3 binder collection of New Jersey town cancels on cover.
Welcome to the rather civilized, no big ego group!
somehow i missed the part about covers not being a good idea.....
that's about all that I collect... not FDCs, but even more obscure tied seals on cover, plus US domestic and international rates on cover, and auxilliary markings on cover....

You might also try to find those FDCs on Delcampe, located in Brussels, Belgium. They have almost as much stamp material as does eBay, but less fakes and bad sellers, and mostly more knowledgeable sellers too.

I'd add that besides a substantial collection of world wide postally used stamps and a sort of specialized Machin collection, I have dozens of cover albums I enjoy and two specific areas, one Machins, especially single stamps being used to pay the rate they were issued to cover, tied on cover during the appropriate rate usage as well as Naval and Coast Guard covers, the former of ships that were later engaged in or sunk during World War II, the latter showing actual Coast Guard usage to, or from, vessels or the numerous small stations I visited across the Pacific Ocean fifty years ago.
The problem is that such things are quite specialized and far from everyone's cup of tea.

Aside from my extensive collection of postal usage of my Ben Franklins, I have a couple of cover collections. Two of which are:
New Jersey town cancels on cover. This is now up to three binders and I believe I only have about a third of the towns so far, the easy to find ones of course! I always loved town cancels, especially now that they are pretty much gone from our mail.
The George Washington Bicentennial year of 1932. Aside from first day covers and Washington's birthday covers, entities issued commemorative cachets all year long. I have over 100 and it's tough to find one I don't have, but still come across one occasionally.
And I'm sure these collections make some folks yawn, but they make ME happy and that's all that matters.

I'll drink to that.
No, black coffee, that's all.
