re: New member from the "Great Plains"..............
Hello Jim...
I share your interest in C.S.A. issues as well; it's a fascinating area. There are very knowledgeable, very friendly people here who can steer you in the right direction. Welcome!

Greetings,
Also 65. Ex Navy. Ex Job. Now retired and have time to play. I collect Great Britain and Australia. Civil War postal history sounds fascinating. I have some really bad forgeries, but of course, they look like really bad forgeries.

Greetings and a warm welcome from the Sunshine state!
CSA is a fascinating area! It's wonderful to have an a specialist in that area to join us. A bit of a coincidence - our neighbors were just telling us about a long trip they took touring all the major civil war historical sites. Are you also an avid civil war history buff or reenactor? Looking forward to hearing more!
Again - delighted to have you join us.

Welcome olfogey, from another old fogey, also from the Great Plains state of Kansas. Also interested in the Civil War, but haven't gotten into CSA stamp collecting.

re: New member from the "Great Plains"..............
Welcome Oldfogey I don't collect civil war as yet, but I live within a two hour drive of at least a dozen CW battlefields. (Chancellorsville, New Market, Bull Run, Wilderness and more). I have restricted mobility now, but I work with a few re-enactors and would go watch some of their weekend gatherings. Of course I would drive home and sleep in my bed while they slept in their tents.
Of course, Virginia History dates far beyond Civil War. Jefferson's home Montecello and Madison's home Montpelier are both within an hour from me.
If you ever come visit Virginia, look me up.

I used to be a historical re-enactor, but not Civil War - the fur trade era, more appropriate to the plains where I'm from. Can't do that anymore due to my disability - pretty much home-bound now.
As far as my being a "specialist" in the area of C.S.A. stamps, we need to dispel that myth right away - LOL - I'm green as grass
I'm starting into that area of stamp collecting because it fits into some other collectibles I have from the Civil war - thought the stamps would be a good addition.
