re: 1949 1/6d Hermes and Globe. Positional block of 12 showing 'extra island' variety.
Stamps always look better when seen in person.
There is more to show, in about 2 hours I'll be uploading a stamp that was part of the Note Printing Branch thefts in the 1940s. It is the 1946 2½d Peace stamp printed on unwatermarked paper. All legitimate 2½d Peace stamps issued for public sale are on watermarked paper.
You will see the watermarked 1946 2½d Peace stamp under ACSC 236a; 236a* is the reverse of the stamp, the watermarked version is ACSC 236 and the reverse side ACSC 236*.
I'll be adding the history of the theft when I upload the stamp later.
I've not entirely completed my King George VI collection, as there are a few more items to add.
All are mint unhinged and well centred to superb mint unhinged (perfect centring). You will notice that there is a lot of 5/-, 10/- and £1 Robes. That is a complete collection of 15 minus 1 (the £1 Robe Specimen is extremely difficult to find in the condition I want, and considering it is worth nearly $2,000 I would expect nothing less than well centred).
Here is the link to the King George VI collection to date; it is in ACSC (Australian Commonwealth Specialists' Catalogue) order, not Stanley Gibbons.

Rob,
As chance would have it I have a blank space in my album for the 1949 Hermes and Globe stamp. Since you have so many spares would you mind tearing one out of that block and send to me. Thanks!!
Just being silly of course, that is a fine and interesting block of stamps you have.

Well Eric aren't you in luck and I'm not kidding, I actually do have a spare Mint unhinged 1949 Hermes and Globe, and I do not need to detach it from the block of 12, if you need it just PM me with your postal address details and I'll send it to you.

"Are these legal to own? I mean do they still technically belong to the government as title of ownership was never transferred? "
I really cannot say, although it can now be seen that they can be bought without falling foul of the law today.
The stamp below is from the same Note Printing Branch thefts, it is a pair of 1942 scarlet horizontal imperforate 2½d of George VI, it's quite scarce.
The 2½d Peace stamp and this one are the only 2 stamps from the thefts I have, other stamps from the thefts are extremely hard to locate; I was lucky to find the imperforate pair, hopefully I will be able to add more to my collection.

Rob did indeed send me the Hermes on Globe to complete my page. Here it is in my album, and immortalized with the text "Rob1956" below it. I will tell people who see it that it is an extremely rare Rob1956 worth 4000 dollars. Bound to confuse future generations of stamp collectors.
And thank you Damichab for clearing up a couple of items in another thread.
