re: Serbia?

Hi Doug,

I believe this is a charity label from Serbia rather than a postage stamp.

In the top right corner is the flag of Serbia and Montenegro and under this it says "Serbia and Montenegro" in Serbian.

In 2004 postage stamps in Serbia had the country name as "Serbia and Montenegro" and not just "Serbia" as the two countries didn't separate until 2006. They also had the face values in both euros and dinars.

And, of course, we all remember that the 2004 Olympics were held in Athens.

This stamp is listed in Stanley Gibbons as SG S239c, under a general heading "These issues were only for sale within Serbia". It is a tax stamp for the Serbian Olympic Committee.

Here is a list of various charity tax stamps from Serbia, and Serbia & Montenegro that may be of interest:

re: Serbia?

Hi JillCrow,

Thanks for the correct ID and for the useful list.Happy

I should have realised that it could be a Serbia-only tax stamp.

I remember some years ago buying some other Serbian tax stamps from Michael's store including the amazing flying condom stamp which is on your list as SMN-T-6.

I guess the information for this period is incomplete in my 2009 SG Balkans catalogue as the listing for Serbia there runs from SG S239 to SG S240 with nothing in between.

Nigel,

I had to laugh when I saw you say the flying condom - that would make an interesting thematic collection!

And to what do we owe the catalog designation "SMN"?

Cheers,

re: Serbia?

Hi IkeyPikey,

The prefix "SMN" will stand for "Serbia and Montenegro", i.e. these are stamps issued for Serbia while Serbia was still part of the federation of Serbia and Montenegro.

In contrast, the later stamps in the list use "SER" as a Prefix.
