Advance Australia on the banner. Just got this stamp in a batch of stamps, and really like it. Simple allegory of Britannia with ships on the horizon. Are those wings on the top left and right corners? She appears to be standing on an orb. Is that representing Australia?
Found an unused, albeit off centered, version on eBay. 1890 stamp. Scott #89. Cost around $15. I try to stick to unused prior to 1940, but I never seem to stick to my own rules.

re: New South Wales Allegory
The 1890 stamp is worth $25 mint and $10 used from a specialist I deal with. It's under the listing ACSC 25 (Australian Commonwealth Specialist Catalogue). It is a nice colonial to have in a collection.

Jillcrow, that actually makes more sense. Especially with the "Advance Australia" on the banner. Sheesh.
So, if you pitted the allegorical figure of Britannia against the allegorical figure of Australia in a cage match, who would win? Just a thought. It would be a tussle I reckon.
