My neighbor has this complete set of 5 stamps in very fine never hinged mint condition. My 2011 catalog lists them at $925.00 'never hinged'. I'd like to be able to tell him what the current catalog value for this set is... Feedback is much appreciated. Thanks and Take Care, Big Daddy Dave

The easiest way to establish value is to go to eBay and search for 323,324,325,326,327 in the United States-Unused:1901-1940 category. Listing all the Scott numbers will bring up only listings with a complete set.

Then take a look at the variety of asking prices, some of those are pie in the sky.Find auctions that look like yours in condition, centering and NMH. Then bookmark them to see what they bring in the end. The only true gauge of value is what people actually paid. Look at what the seller is asking for postage. It ranges from FREE to many dollars. People bid less on those auctions with huge shipping charges.

All told, I'm patient and I've been buying mint USA stamps of this era for 10-20% of Scott catalog. I see auctions I don't win pay much more than that percentage but seldom more than 50% of catalog.

Yeah, there's a reason why many of the US catalog values keep dropping this decade.

On May 7th, I sold my unused well-centered set for $110 at EBay.
