If you were hoping to complete your Ireland collection, here's a deal for you! Maybe. If you have deep pockets and work fast. I suspect the stamps won't last long, even at the starting price of U.S. $1,260:
Weeda Stamps, a well-known dealer in Victoria, BC is offering the stamps in their new Dutch auction. Here's their explanation:
"Ireland VF used example of the screamingly rare January 23rd 2014 issue "Irish Citizen Army" commemorative. The stamp was on sale for 10 minutes, then withdrawn, as it was uncertain as to whether it was the correct image of Captain Jack White as depicted on the stamp. Very few escaped the post office. Estimates are in the low teens for the number of known mint examples and around the same numbers for the used examples that have surfaced. Needless to say that this stamp is missing from 99.9% of Irish collections. Includes catalogue info and several articles. Speculative 2016 Scott US $900.00."
It's an interesting example of that shows the futility of trying to complete a country collection unless "completeness" is defined as "complete except for some impossibly rare/expensive stamps".
Weeda stamps, by the way, is an excellent stamp company. For many years, it was located here in Vancouver, offering high quality stamps (specializing in Canada) and exceptional service. Originally it operated from a brick-and-mortar shop (literally), but now, like so many stamp shops, it has moved to on-line sales and frequent auctions. And no, I don't work for Weeda, although I know the owners and recommend them unequivocally.

So, did An Post ever resolve the "certainty" one way or the other? And if it is determined the picture is correct, do they re-release the withdrawn stamps, or have they been destroyed?
Just wonderin' while I'm wanderin'. (with apologies to Tusken Raider)

I have used Weesa several times and were the shipping to Florida or even Texas not so high would have done so more often.
I would point out that their estimates are somewhat Pie in the Sky. However they do post the realizations for the last five auctions on-line so it is a good idea to check out similar material.

Yes - I do have a used copy and every once in a while my Cap'n Jack pops up in the upper left corner here.
I sure don't plan to sell it because I only need one more seahorse to have a complete used collection. I can't find a used copy of that darn elusive 10 shilling seahorse that looks like it has a genuine cancel - too many have courtesy cancels.

Hey bobstamp thanks for sharing this!
Theresa, I had never heard the story behind this modern rarity and to learn that you found a used copy in a batch of Kiloware is outstanding! That's the type of collecting story I love to hear.
Believe it or not, I find myself paying attention to the stamps in the upper left corner. Some I see over and over but I've never seen that one. I love the revolving stamp up there.

Hi Everyone;
Hey Ernie, I found one of my most valuable stamps in Kiloware also. It is a machin that is printed
in two colors. The lighter of the two blues is missing.

Are there known forgeries of this? I may be dreaming, but I recall seeing something like this in HOARD #1. Maybe worth a serious look on a crappy Sunday afternoon?

Can you post a picture of the one stamp you are missing? I'll keep an eye out for it.

"This is a very new issue - I doubt it would show up in the hordes..."
Right!
Now that I think of it I may have been having a vision of ikeyPikey in his avatar or thinking of my New Zealand ANZAC stamps. I'll still look, just not today now!
