This stamp from Uruguay (Scott #217), issued in July 1919, to celebrate peace after World War I, was the first to depict the Statue of Liberty. It was issued 3 years before the statue's first appearance on a US stamp (Scott #566), as part of the 4th Bureau definitives series.

Interesting!

An American statue, designed by a French sculptor, built by a French engineer (who also built the Eiffel Tower) reproduced on a South American stamp, printed (and presumably designed) by a British printing firm (Waterlow).

Neat!

The stamp is actually one of a set of 6. There have been many countries that have issued stamps depicting the Statue of Liberty. I would not doubt that several have made a topical collection of it. One would think the U.S. should have made a stamp with it's image long before it did, especially before another country did.

This is really an attractive stamp. It is used on the cover of the 2016 Scott Classic Specialized Catalogue.
