The January-February 2016 issue of the Stamp Insider, journal of the Federation of New York Philatelic Societies, is online and available for free download in PDF format or viewing online with page turning. It is available in both PDF and HTML5-friendly format at:

The cover story is “Something To Die For” by Glenn A. Estus, who examines Vermont-related large and small die proofs. The author recently discovered the only known large die proof (Scott 903P1) for the 1941 Vermont Statehood stamp.

A resurrected article, “We Can Take It — The CCC Story” from the 1983 First Days by Robert D. Barron expands on Charles Epting’s article in the November-December 2015 Stamp Insider issue.

Steve Swain explores “20th Century Fancy Cancels,” most of which were used to cancel registered mail from the early 1920s to the mid 1930s. Dated postmarks were not allowed on the face of registered letters.

Other articles include USPS stamp issues for 2016 and “Pranking and Hazing Railway Mail Service Substitutes.”

The featured video is a 1903 short showing a horse-drawn wagon transferring mail to and from a trolley mail car and taking outbound mail to a RPO near Anderson Dray and Storage on North Capitol Street in Washington, D.C.
