...in the end of this 2015 (a very successful) year, Post of Slovakia made one really surprise with ART issue, as they made issue to celebrate MUCHA work! So beautiful, so real art work by designer, and really perfect postage stamp!
Other issue that I can mention, in same "ART" topic is also "House of..." in Skalica city, with same issue in (traditionally one per year issue ) black-print option. great in all aspect!
"Fauna" issue are little bit disappointing, but still nice, and one issue that deserve attention is "Oncology" single stamp!
Seal News, the journal of the Christmas Seal and Charity Stamp Society, featured an article on Mucha, and even included one of his labels on the cover.

I think almost all modern Slovakian stamps are beautiful. They are certainly a lot better made/designed than almost everything gracing my mail here in the US. Unfortunately, the communist period with the mass quantities of CTOs really ruined all of Eastern European countries for most collectors. I am not sure it will be possible to overcome this negative perception. Objectively, as far as modern stamps go, it will be difficult to beat many of these central European nations with respect to quality and restrain. Instead of collecting "to 1940" perhaps collecting "from 1990" could be an idea for those that really like it off the beaten path.
an interesting observation on several points, Arno.
Czechoslovak stamps from the 60s onwards were quite beautiful. Early communist-era stamps, however, were universally horrid. Later ones were gorgeous, but, yes, issuing policies were, well, reminiscent of current US policies.

...You know, as we talk "Mucha" issue, Czech republic made also one, in booklet format, but as it is (booklet" smaller dimension, some perfect detaile are lost:

I have adopted that very mindset. Being only 2 generations removed from my Polish ancestors, I always wanted to collect the stamps of Poland, but was just simply turned off by the junky communist wallpaper that was churned out. This feeling persisted long after the county's liberation from the evil empire. It wasn't until a couple of years ago, when I picked up a few recent Polish issues for a topical collection that I noticed the striking change, for the better, in the quality of design and production of the stamps of Poland.
I would second that suggestion, for anyone looking for nice modern issues to collect, to take a new look at the old Eastern Bloc countries.
