In recording Red Cross issues for my master want list, some of my sources note the 1897-1934 # 40, 44, 53 and 74 are Red Cross issues. Being that Tonga has a red cross in their flag, is it not for this fact, that these stamp issues are for this reason and not Red Cross issues. As some members of StampoRama told me, you collect what you want in an issue, but it goes against my grain to pay out $72.50 for a mint issue that is in error of what it is, or in this case, is not. I enjoy the Tonga issues as they are very unique in their size and what has been pictured for stamp issues.
Tonga`s flag is a red cross on a white square placed in the upper left hand corner of a red flag....The Red Cross flag is a red cross on a large white flag......Look closely to see the difference
I've been a member of the ATA for five years. I've all the check lists for the three areas they have in their database(Red Cross, UPU and Sir Rowland Hill) These stamp issues are noted on their check lists but the more I look at them, the more I'm sure it is an error to list them.
