What exactly does this question mean? Who is able to view my e-mail address on my profile page? Does this question mean 'Do I want my e-mail address visible to others?'
I am asking because I just received a commercial e-mail from a new member.

To me it means that I will accept and respond to inquiries (trades, discussions, etc.). It is NOT an invitation to receice spam and if a member is spamming you, notify me or another moderator and we'll put a stop to it.

Bobby, I will forward it to you and you can decide if it is spam. If I had received it through the message system here, I 'probably' would not have said anything.
My concern is that anyone can join (good thing), but to automatically have access to my private e-mail address is not a good thing. If I change my status to say that I am not willing to correspond, will that hide my e-mail address?
I thought it meant what you think it means but, we can do all of that through the message system here, and share our e-mail addresses the same way if we so choose.

I probably posted this in the wrong area of the DB, I won't be offended if this thread is moved. I was thinking that my question was something a new member would ask, but after looking at other threads in this area, I realize that it's for new collectors and not new members. My apologies.
I'm not sure what to think. On one hand, the email is commercial in nature; but that doesn't mean I'm adverse to receiving info about other sites. I figure that as long as it is related to stamp collecting, contains no malware or viruses and I don't get repeat messages, it's not so bad. I clicked on it and deleted the message. All done.
On the other hand, if the owner of this site is going to upload my info and email into his/her website's data base of potential customers, then I do have an issue. You get access to this website as a member to correspond. As long as this was a one-time opportunity to reach out to me, I'm okay. If I get follow-up emails or find that I'm added to their mailing list, I will complain.
Folks send emails to each other here as part of the normal give and take between collectors. I've asked members in the past if they have any interest in building their collections through trades or sales, if we have common interests. I've also asked members to keep an eye of for certain items that I may be interested in. Some are dealers, some aren't. I don't think that we can come up with a set of hard and fast rules to govern how we do this; but I do hope that common sense and general courtesy and respect will prevail.

The matter has been resolved with the member responsible. For new members, and for those old members unaware, it is a violation of Stamporama policy to utilize the information in a member's profile to send advertising (spam). Please respect the right of your fellow members to enjoy the hobby sans commercials.
