During WWll children were encouraged to buy war saving stamps at 25cents each to purchase a $4 bond.I believe there were 10 stamps in the set I am looking for a scan of the stamps.I have several of the stamps and I am wondering which ones I am missing.Any info would be appreciated
I am not sure if this is the set you are referring to, but, this was a set of 8 different designs.
Also pictured are examples of 2 different booklets that they could be mounted in, one in English text only and the other bi-lingual (at least, that is what is in my collection).
Thankyou These are the stamps I have another stamp in the set It is a close up of a plane flying in from the left side....and I am told there is another ship (destroyer) or submarine but I have never seen a picture of that stamp
The other stamp in the series to which you refer is a Spitfire. It was issued at the same time as the booklet pane already pictured, but in a similar-sized booklet pane all its own. There also was one other issue in the series, also in booklet panes, and it is a blue stamp with "25 cents" as the centerpiece. I believe the destroyer you have heard about is the stamp on the top row, third from the left, in the pane already scanned into this thread. In the van Dam catalogue of Canadian revenue stamps the blue 25 cents issue is FWS5, the Spitfire is FWS6 and the eight issues in the pane are FWS7-FWS14, with the entire pane listed as number FWS15.
Thankyou for the info...I just checked the site and it seems the one I am missing is FWS1 the soldier raising his arms By the price quoted it will be a while until I purchase one.... Cheryl
