Bill Weiss has passed away. He made many great contributions to philately, both in terms of knowledge and through his expertizing business. He was greatly missed after his retirement, and even more so now.

" Death is only an old door
Set in a garden wall
On gentle hinges it gives, at dusk
When the thrushes call
Along the lintel are green leaves
Beyond the light lies still;
Very willing and weary feet
Go over that wooden sill
There is nothing to trouble any heart;
Nothing to hurt at all.
Death is only a quiet door.
In an old wall. "

I never had any personal dealings with him but last year I bought a US number 1 and it had a Weiss certificate with it. Did not know that at one time he was one of "the" experts on US.

Very sad indeed. Bill was a true expert on U.S. philately. Bill helped me out many times in raising my knowledge of stamps. His moving on is a great loss to the hobby

Rest in peace Bill and we give our thanks for your presence in our stamp community.
Charlie - I will copy that poem because that is something I needed to personally hear right now.

Thanks for the obit Michael. Interesting that he was married for 51 years and he died a mere 10 weeks after her passing.
I have many Weiss certs in my collection. I enjoyed working with him, especially on one fascinating 3rd Bureau coil, but never had the pleasure to meet him in person.
He will be missed!

It seems to be quite common among close knit couples who spent a lifetime together, relying on one another that I believe life appears to be not worth living without that partner.
That is why we must love our albums almost as much as our spouse.
