I have had this card for a while, but, cannot determine if the image is that if a police officer, or a military officer? There aren't any inscriptions on the card at all and the postmark on the back is very feint and I cannot make it out. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks a lot.

re: Mounted Canadian Police Officer or Military?
Excellent link Roy - thanks! I knew they were the predecessors of the RCMP - this link really gives a good introduction to the beginnings of the Dominion's own force.

The NWMP helmets didn't have a badge as this one does (at least, I can't find an image of one with a badge). This may be a local policeman, or I'm thinking a British soldier. Their pith helmets did carry badges.

re: Mounted Canadian Police Officer or Military?
Wasn't there a crossover between the NWMP & the military? Or perhaps a symbol of a higher rank in the NWMP?

I was looking through some boxes of postcards and came across this particular card showing an R.C.M.P. officer in an 1898 dress uniform, which I strongly believe to be the uniform and crest on the helmet to the card I originally posted in here.

re: Mounted Canadian Police Officer or Military?
Technically, the Northwest Mounted Police. (The Royal Northwest Mounted Police after the Boer War).
The RCMP did not exist until a merger of the NWMP and the Dominion Police in 1920. The merged entity was named the Royal Canadian Mounted Police at that time.
