Hello, Vernon here. Thought I should introduce myself since I plan to post on another category and did not want to start there.
I have been collecting/accumulating stamps off and on since the late 50's. I have not been a diligent collector but only engaging in the hobby off and on, with sometimes a period of off being years. One was a little skirmish in Southeast asia which prompted me to enlist in the Air Force.
When I retired in 2008 and after about two years investing, I got back into my stamps. I bought several box lots from Ebay and enjoyed everyone of them. I then decided I needed to belong to a club and rejoined APS. I then in my quest online found Stamporama and after watching it for a couple of months joined in April of this year. I have enjoyed the information it provided and the discussion. I have also purchased stamps using approval which I think was a brilliant idea by the way, and the auction. All the sellers have been great.
I want to tell you that to many of you on this site I am a Novice. I have not done a lot of research and study of stamps as many of you have, but have enjoyed it none the less.
Now, I will be posting a thread in the category " Can you identify this" . I found a stamp that I am sure most would say is 99.9% a fake, but it puzzles me a little. I need
your comments on it for my education. I think you would like the discussion.
Sorry this was a little long, but when I get started I am a little windy.
Welcome, Vernon, to Stamporama. Please ask away! If you have any specific questions regarding the running of the auctions, please feel free to PM me as I am one of the Auctioneers here. BOB

Welcome Vernon from a Texas ex-pat now living in Yankeeland (Maine). If you have been lurking since April, then you already have a feel for Stamporama. I am delighted you finally decided to take the plunge and enter the conversation! Have fun.

Thanks to everyone for your welcome. I just like to add that for those of you
that donate your time to making this site/club a nice place to be and easy to
use, a huge THANK YOU.
I'm in Kentucky now, but came here from Murphy, TX. You may be the only person on SoR that knows where Murphy is! Michael probably knows it's near Dallas, but I suspect you know exactly which way to go on 544 to get there!
Welcome!
Lars

In Texas, when someone mentions a small town name, and no one knows where it's located, the answer is that it's either near Dallas, Houston, or is in west Texas.
Don't worry about being a novice. I have been collecting for nearly 60 years and the more I know the more I realise how much I don't yet know.
If I can offer a word. Read all the threads here - even the ones outside your areas of interest. It's quite amazing how a comment about an unrelated subject can sometimes start a line of thought relevant to your own collection.

re: Hello from Plano Texas
Bill, I do know Murphy. Have occasion to drive there once in a while. But it not
such a little town anymore.
Michael, my wife and I grew up in a small town in Kansas called Winfield. I have always
had to tell people, oh, its 50 miles south of Wichita Ks. so they have a reference
as to where its located. But it is now known for the Winfield Bluegrass Festival,
held every September. Its been going on now for 45 years.
Malcolm, I do read the threads and search the discussion for answers to my questions.
A good source for information.

This coming from someone who lives near Austin. Yeah, I know where Round Rock is. One of my good friends lives in Pfluggerville. I use to drive down 2 or 3 times a year when I lived "near Dallas"
