I am putting together a collection of unusual stamps There are cloth stamps, cork , plastic , wooden, smelly , vinyl ,moving stamps. rubber and stamps with dust/rocks etc.......There are silk FDCovers My question is Did any countries actually put out a silk stamp?
thanks Cheryl
I spent the past evening researching unusual stamps for my next mini project...WELL!!!! Check out Orapex 2013 Nicole Lacours and her 10 frame display . It is amazing!
One type has one or more threads of silk embedded in the substance of the paper, extending across the stamp. In the catalogues, this type of paper usually is designated as "with silk threads."
The other type, used to print many U.S. revenue stamps, has short silk fibres strewn over it and impressed into it during manufacture. This is simply called "silk paper.""
The most interesting thing about the silk paper is how the silk paper was made. While the paper was still wet someone quite literally tossed a handful of silk fibers onto the sheet of paper as it was being made! As opposed to the Experimental Silk Paper where it was "Sprinkled" onto the paper often leaving large areas without any fibers at all
I found this on another site and thought that I might share...now of to check my revenue stamps!!
And don't forget porcelain, steel, aluminum, soccer ball material, seeds (that you could actually plant!), meteorite dust and rock dust,CD-rom....
....and I'm sure a few more I'm forgetting!
A member of our local stamp club here in Greenville has put together a display of all the unusual materials stamps have been created from. Quite an impressive display.

re: unusual stamps
As far as smallest and largest stamps go; the smallest I think of is the 1952 Columbian 5 cent stamp shown. There were several different small building types like this but this one is considerably smaller than the rest. When I think of largest stamps I usually think of the 1865 U.S. periodicals. However the "Persian Rug" beats it by quite a bit. The Banknote is thrown in for comparison. The rug is a catalog cut out, unfortunately
Treasures from the archives
Issued 7th Sept. 2004
Also issued as a Peel & Stick stamp on the same date.
Another one issued 6th Sept. 2005 (different design) - I don't have one but it looks the same size in the catalogue - Also listed is an imperforate version of this one released 10th Jan 2006.

I have a feeling that is true for me at times, At the rate they are printing stamps and mini-sheets, I can barely keep up either

Just wondering what countries may have issued stamps bearing seeds? I have located the Ghaf tree seed from United Arab Emirates and also one from the Netherlands...Might there be others?

" ... Yeah, the blue whale is the size of a small banknote. ..."
And the clean postally used example cost me a small banknote.
