The USPS is issuing a Presort stamp this month so my collector friend tells me. I have some info about the uses of Presort stamps but I am wondering how often the USPS has issued Presort stamps and whether other countries have done the same? Always learning something new....
i don't know the answer, but I'm guessing about 5 or 6 different presorts. Presorts are a specific category of service-inscribed stamp that can only be used with a permit and after having fulfilled a number of requirements, including minimum number of pieces (200) sorting by TYPE of destination (state, city, 3-digit ZIP, ZIP, ZIP+4, and carrier route), and entering at the PO where the permit is on file. Typically the discount is worth a nickle per piece, up or down depending on the number of pieces in each type of destination. it makes economic sense ONLY if there is large volume. Permits have been rising in price quickly of late, and must be renewed annually. This is not for the faint of heart, and is typically done at a mail house, which, of course, also charges you for the sevice, further reducing the net gain.

"Save the USPS, buy stamps; save the hobby, use commemoratives"
There were snowflakes and eagles I believe....I googled and found a few listed....the search is on for a complete list as I have most of them in my US collection but didn`t really know too much about their use...

re: Presort stamps
RE: "Spectrum Eagle " set.
Even they are hard to find postally used, which would mean un-gummed after being removed from an envelope.

cool stuff! Whenever I get mail / junk mail with any of these on them, I've saved the entire cover. And if it's interesting, I leave the contents in. Someone will be looking for these someday, and now is the only time to save them.
