According to the catalog, scott 146 is Red Brown without the secret mark. 157 is Brown with secret mark. This stamp is obviously not the Red Brown of my other copies of 146, but I can find no trace of a secret mark. Has anyone seen copies of 157 without the mark?

According to Scott:

"This mark seldom shows clearly. The stamp, No. 157, can be distinguished by its color."

I saw that remark in the specialized catalog, but there is a difference between not showing clearly and non-existent. Thank you for the comment.

Now that Nelson has pointed it out, I can see it also. Never would have, however, had I not been informed that it was there, thus prompting me to look closer.

I see it now. I was expecting something much more dramatic as in the other marks. I have been looking right at it not realizing it was there. Thank you everyone.

But even if the secret mark wasn't there, because the color is brown it would be a 157. As Bill Weiss has pointed out, the secret mark is not always there.
