Silence in the face of adversity is the father of complicity and collusion, the first cousins of conspiracy..

As most Anglophile stampers are aware, on September 9th, the Queen will have reined longer than any other British Monarch and possibly any other monarch in history. Doug had scheduled DR 114 to be published September 7th, but has decided to defer it till Friday "in order to include details and scans of the LTR issues."

Charlie, she'll replace Victoria as number 48. The longest, Sobhuza II of Swaziland, was but 4 months old when his father died and he became king. He reigned for over 82 years. The longest reign of a monarch of a major European country was Louis XIV of France, who ascended the throne at the age of 5 and ruled for over 72 years (he is number 12 on the list). The entire list is HERE (a Wikipedia page).

Thanks for the list, Bobby. I was wondering where the King of Thailand was listed--he's #22 all time. Like Elizabeth, he'll rule until he dies as his son is despised by Thailand's population. BOB

Now if I were a true-blue dyed-in-the-wool Royalist with a misinterpretation problem I might think you were casting aspersions on Charles Philip Arthur George there, Bob! HMQ will indeed rule until she ascends to her choice of palaces in the sky, and plenty of people in the UK have their reservations about CPAG, but 'despised' is a bit strong!

But as I'm a parliamentarian by nature I'll assume you only meant to take the Elizabeth-Bhumibol analogy so far and no further!

You are correct, Guthrum, in your last sentence.
Also, HMQ, as you call her, is destined to live longer than Bhumibol (who is pretty much worshipped in Thailand) as her mum lived to be 102. BOB

The Queen Mother, Elizabeth, was born on 4th August 1900, and died on 30th March 2002, so was 101 years and 7 (nearly 8) months old when she passed away. She was in her 102nd year.

Looking at your list, Bobby at first I thought, so what? But then the more I looked the more I found it interesting.
So after a few scribbled notes and some quick calculations on my yellow paper pad, yes, I still use pen and paper, imagine that, I circled my Yahoo calendar, May eleventh, 2034 adding a note that Elizabeth II will have become the longest known reigning monarch in known history
. ( But then had to change it to allow for that tricky extra day that will be slipped in in 2016, 2020, 3024, 2028 and 2032. and marked May 7th, 2034.)
I'll be in my 95th year and probably have another ten stents in whatever cardiac arteries are left, but it is well within the range of possibility.
I invite everyone to join me that afternoon as I ceremoniously HINGE the then newly issued First class mail's £52.00 Machin, the 842nd color/value different number in that issue to its place in my Machin album number six. I need to seek an appropriate bottle of Sherry for that evenings meal, or a last man standing ceremony, which ever is first.
PS, I did round off some of the calculations so I may be off by a day or so, but I am sure someone will check it out.
