These are all regular issues from around 1900 to 1910.

HOWEVER!! Almost all of the examples on the market of stamps from Iran from 1870 to 1925 are forgeries. They were made in the early 20th Century for the stamp packet trade to be sold to collectors. One must always presume that any such stamps in their collection are forgeries until proven otherwise.

The odds are heavily in favor of overprinted stamps from that period being forgeries, as Michael#####s pointed out.

A quick glance, and I can see that the 2nd and 3rd stamps in the Row 1 are definitely forgeries.

However, it has been my experience going through accumulations/collections of Iran, that genuine stamps can often be found mixed in with the counterfeits, even WITHIN a set.

For example, the 1st stamp in Row 1 has a good chance at being genuine. At least it's not one of the common forgeries. But a clean corner cancel is usually a bad sign. It is possible to have a genuine stamp and a forged cancel. Even the fakers get mixed up sometimes!!!

Have fun "weeding" out the genuine stamps. And remember, NEVER go by the illustrations in the Scott catalog. They actually have a forgery or two shown! Something Michael#####s will have to fix when he buys Scott.

I don't think the stamp at the top left is genuine. The outer frame looks to be over-inked, filling in the "ovals" around the edge. As you pointed out the cancel is highly suspect. Also the "R" and "O" of "Provisoire" are too far apart. They should almost touch at the top.

Thanks to all for their posts......I was hoping that they would be relatively simple but it sounds as if they will need to go back into the " to be sorted at some point " pile which seems to be getting bigger every day....not that I am complaining as I am coming towards what most consider to be retirement age over here in the UK and " might " have more time.Happy

Best wishes,

Brian......... off back to sort even more machins!

I can assure you that such a belief is definitely just a myth!
