re: Funny Cancel
I suspect that was a local precancel for a town in Massachusetts. The handstamp may have been improperly inked, maybe just used too many times between inking, or perhaps pressure was applied unevenly.

The stamp on the left could be a box cancel as well. Box cancels are hand applied, and that cancel shows signs of a double application, hand cancelling and uneven outside wrapper due to the bulk of the interior contents, or a "bounce" of the cancelling pad giving the cancel its wavy look.
I believe the cancel on the 8 center to be a box cancel due to its orientation, and the continuation of the cancel to the right as well as the line on the left side of the stamp. Those are generally not characteristics of a pre-cancel.

re: Funny Cancel
Not a box cancel, but a roller hand cancel device in both cases. Not much literature exits on these. That is, with few exceptions most are not identified yet.
Re the BenFranklin1902 photo of an unknown country. Well if you look closer you'll see an outline of a faint 'C' before the 'ANAL' meaning country is CANAL ZONE which used to be part of the US or maybe still is.

Re NL1947 photo of 2 precancels, the Revenue stamp on left is from Massachusetts but as town seems to ending in **ON* it could be anyone of nearly 400+ towns having a Town & Type precancel.
