In my introduction as a new member to StampoRama I stated that I’m glad to join StampoRama as a place to able to share and gain information on every aspect of stamp collecting. When I start with the first – sharing information – I can think of no better way than to introduce my – entirely non-commercial – website StampWorldHistory, launched June,1st.
The site provides information on the historical context of stamps issued worldwide. As such it is primarily aimed at the worldwide collector. The site contains country profiles with the political and postal history of countries described. It contains custom made maps illustrating the political and postal history of these countries. And it contains country diagrams: flow charts showing the political developments most often of groups of countries.
The drive to understand the historical context in which countries have issued stamps has led me to do some research on the political and postal history of countries worldwide. At first purely to satisfy my own curiosity. However, as the results of that research began to accumulate I thought it might be useful to share those results with the stamp collecting community. Hence this site.
I am well aware that there are other sites on the web that may offer similar content. However, each collector seems to have his or her own specific ‘need to know’ and so do I. This has led me to develop content that I hope will add something to the base of knowledge of the stamp collecting community and be of value for some collectors out there.
The site is – and will be for years to come – a work in progress. Currently the site contains a complete set of over 80 country profiles of the countries in Asia and over 120 country profiles for Africa. It furthermore contains selected country diagrams for Africa, Asia and Europe and maps of the continents and selected countries in Europe. Currently I am working on more profiles for the countries in Africa.
Please check it out and let me know what you think of it!

Really enjoyed seeing the background information for the countries. The United States of America profile is illuminating from a historical viewpoint. I hope that the site can continue to be made available on an on-going basis as it contains quite useful content.

Michael, I had no idea. I hadn't "spoke" with him in a long time. He didn't seem all that old to me I wonder what happened to him. He was using stamp images from my site and hadn't requested an update for quite awhile.

I wonder if there's a way to continue his project?

I have spoken to someone who worked with Gerben on his project and am now trying to get in touch with one of his children who now owns the site in order to learn what plans the relatives have with this site.
