10:49:13pm | Sir Nicholas Winton, the British stockbroker responsible for the rescue of 669 Czech children via the Kindertransport from Prague-to-the-UK in 1939, will be honored with the Prague release on September 2 of a stamp bearing his image. Sir Winton received Czechoslovakia's highest honor, the order of the White Lion, in Oct. 2014. He died on July 1, 2015 at age 106.
The British Royal Post has yet to make a decision about producing a stamp in Sir Winton's honor. A campaign is underway to collect 150,000 signatures to petition for such a stamp to be created.
I learned about this remarkable man and his humanitarian life from a talk given by one of the "children" he rescued when she spoke at the school where I taught in April, 2012.
Personally, I would like to see Sir Winton featured on a US stamp as well. He certainly deserves the recognition more than Harry Potter and friends!

It is gratifying to see Sir Nicholas commemorated so soon on a stamp. In the UK, however, we have a miserable record with this sort of thing and I would not have expected to see him on a GB stamp any time soon.
Small point, but worth noting, I think: as a knight of the realm, the man is designated 'Sir Nicholas Winton' on first mention, but 'Sir Nicholas' thereafter. An ordinary gentleman would be 'Mr Nicholas Winton' on first mention, but 'Mr Winton' (or even just 'Winton') thereafter.
