You can look for hints on the stamp. In the upper right, you can see the date 1896.

However, the blue color of the stamp indicates it is the re-issue of 1897 rather from the original issue of 1896 (12c color would be slate).

You have to determine if the stamp is watermarked.

El Salvador #164(watermark #117) or #170F(unwatermarked)

I cannot tell if you have an original 1897 printing or a subsequent reprint. The reprints are on thicker paper than the originals.
