Hi All,

I got this stamp in a collection of Gibraltar. On the album page it says it is "large 2 in 1/2" variety. After checking SG I think it would be SG79a. Trouble is, I can't notice any difference. Could anybody tell me if this is the variety and also how you can tell...

Many thanks in advance,

re: Gibraltar "Large 2 in 1.2" Question

Thank-you nl1947 for your detailed response. I found a similar block to yours on Google. I've been trying to compare them to my stamp but, to be honest, I can't see any difference - maybe my eye is not trained enough!

Thanks again and best wishes to all
James

I can see the difference when compared side by side, but were the image of either offered as a "stand alone," I would be unable to tell. That is why we keep Nelson around, to guide us through the morass.Big Grin

re: Gibraltar "Large 2 in 1.2" Question

Is the "large 2" difference the same in both issues?

All the exemplars given are the black lettering issue, but the stamp in question has blue lettering, from a different issue.

You can also see that the word "Penny" almost completely vertically fills the box on the large "2" example, while the font on the other "Penny" is smaller.
