Google's doodle today informed me that today, April 14th, is the 155th anniversary of this quick mail service. Does anyone have a legit piece of mail that actually traveled through the Pony Express? My dad told me that there are tons of fakes and that it's almost impossible to know if one is real. Thoughts?

I seem to recall one for sale at auction. I believe the estimate was $7000.

Here is a fun item on Mr. Frajola's website about a mail item that was stolen by "Indians" from the Pony Express, and later found and delivered.

Lot 730 is actually obtainable! It's just the full front though. It still was stuffed into a leather bag, strapped to a fast horse and raced through the Rockies to a lawyer in San Francisco!
