I don't see this in Scott, or in a quick google, but I seem to have come across a color variety in the 4p Wilding. In the bottom row stamps, the background outside the oval is much darker than in the top row. All four of these are the multiple crown watermark, so Scott #359. Do Gibbons or other catalogs list this? Does the variety exist with the other two watermarks?
The 2014 SG concise lists the 4d as Ultramarine issued 29/10/1958 and as deep Ultramarine issued 28/4/1965. No mention of outer border shade differences.
However the Post Office announced that a whiter paper was being introduced from18/5/1962 but these varieties are not listed in the Concise but are in Vol. 3 of the GB specialised catalogue. This I do not have, but maybe someone else on the board can look up details for you.

According to Vol.3,and I quote:"This 'Shade' was brought about by making more deeply etched Cylinders from a new multipositive,resulting in apparent depth of colour,but there is no difference in the colour of the ink.The change was made deliberately and coincided with the change in the letter rate from 3d to 4d on 17.May 1965".( Ultramarine white paper 18.Oct.1962;Deep ultramarine 28.April 1965)
