i guess most of us do things at some time that are not too bright(there are one or two here on the board that this does not apply to..i am not including you). Anyhew, at one time i had a ton of 102 cards...and for some reason i started using them to catalog minimum value stamps and using a pen to mark the cards...looking at them now i see what a waste it was...in most cases the card was the same value as the stamp. Anyway i think i learned my lesson ! Now i have to recycle the pencil written ones !!
I think that we have all done that. I now use very light pencil and erase them for reuse but after I prepare an approval book it takes a long time to erase them all. And since I sort stamps from different sources at different times when I gather them all up I may find 3 or 4 cards all holding single stamps of the same number.....

re: i was a wastrel with supplies
There is a paper tape product made by 3M which has adhesive similar to Post-it notes. I use the white tape (it comes in white, green and yellow) to tape over the top portion of the 102/104 cards. One roll will cover the top portion of dozens of cards, making them like new. I use the same tape on unused glassines so that they can be used over and over without marking them up.

I'm afraid I'm still a wastrel with supplies...but in my case it's with glassines. I still use sharpies to note the contents and just cross out when the contents change. I'm trying to "reform" somewhat by relabeling the heavily marked out 3.5 inch glassines "line 1, Line 2, line 3" for my approvals and inserting them into my heavily marked 4.25inch glassines marked "Page 1, Page 2, etc." for my approvals.

Bobbys idea sounds worthy..i do use glassines for storage and shipping but i find the good old 102 card handier for cataloging better sets and singles .
A tip: don't cheap out like I did one time and buy the U-line removable labels. They are removable for a while, but eventually become permanent. The Avery ones, on the other hand, are still removable 5-10 years later.
