I bought this cover at a postcard/stamp show in Iowa City, Iowa for one dollar, several years ago. It had a severe crease angling down the middle, but I dampened the crease with water and pressed it under a heavy pile of books, repeating the process three times. I think it looks pretty good for a buck.

re: Airmail Cover - Miami to the Canal Zone

According to: the Aerodacious website (http://www.aerodacious.com/FAM005.HTM)

The details on the cover are correct. It is the very first FAM5 first flight flown by Lindbergh. It gives a value of $12. The franking is entirely philatelic in nature, but that that is the whole point of first flight covers.

Nice find!

Thank you, and thanks for the link, Smauggie. I always wondered what the plane looked like that carried this cover and now I know. Wow, what a crazy looking plane!

Here is a scan of the back, upside down, to read the Canal Zone cancel on Feb 6, 1929.
