Stamporama Auction Advisory

Stamporama's Management Team hopes that your experience with our auction is a pleasant one, and that you will be able to find many stamps to add to your collection. The foundation of stamp collecting is the philatelic marketplace. We appreciate not only the buyers in our auction, but the sellers who have created a strong foundation of trust among Stamporama members.

Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we cannot guarantee that every seller on Stamporama is honest. As with any business transaction, you should exercise care when bidding on or buying lots offered by sellers you do not know.

The best way to develop a relationship with a seller is through communication. We strongly urge buyers to email new sellers prior to bidding with any questions that they wish to ask. Sellers generally respond quickly and provide clear answers to all questions. In the case of valuable lots, it is not unreasonable to expect an exchange of several emails, even if you just discuss non-philatelic matters. It is unlikely that an unethical seller will respond with anything approaching openness and sincerity.

We urge buyers to carefully examine email addresses. Odd-appearing email addresses with unknown domain names are a red flag that could signify an unethical seller. Email messages from unknown sellers should also be examined carefully. Aside from language difficulties, emails that are phrased awkwardly and seem impersonal should always be suspected. If you have any concerns about a seller, contact either the Stamporama Auctioneer or the Webmaster.

Stamporama's foundation is the mutual trust and respect that its members enjoy. Fortunately, we have had very few instances of seller fraud on Stamporama. When it is discovered, it is quickly taken care of. If you are open in your dealings with a seller, you should have a satisfying experience. For more information about the auction, be sure to read the Auction Introduction and the other information provided.
