Canada/Stamps : Canadian Plate Proof..

I came across Canadian stamp #65 and wondering if it is of any value. In researching it I came across the definition of Plate Proofs in Unitrades 2014 catalogue and am now wondering if that is what this is. The stamp is mounted on a piece of cardboard but the top perfs on the cardboard have seemingly been cut off. Any value to it?

re: Canadian Plate Proof..

The stamp itself has very straight edges and then seems to be glued on the cardboard. would a plate proof stamp be perfed? Is there any other information out there on what a plate proof looks like. Would you remove it from the cardboard to use a a filler?

so many questions???? & always looking for answers....

A plate proof would not be perforated and would not be crooked. Plus a plate proof would not be cancelled. The left edge looks like a cancel but does not appear to be tied to the stamp.

re: Canadian Plate Proof..

It is not a plate proof. Proofs have incredibly fine engraving. This appears to me to be a picture of a $5 jubilee, pasted on top of another used stamp (see the cancel at the left appears to go under the pasted portion). It may then have been used, as smudges of the cancel also overlap both portions (at the bottom.)

It is difficult to tell from the scan, because scanners can create patterns of their own with engraved stamps, but if there are any dots in the image, then it is a printed picture from a catalog or other source.

Those dots are called a "half-tone screen" and are part of the process of creating a printable image for normal book and magazine printing.
