There's a number of issues that were issued in the 60's both tagged and untagged. Scott Catalog doesn't explain what kind of tagging was used. I'm assuming that the 2 side bars was the only tagging used on those issues. Or am I wrong? Just starting to get my used Canada collection organized and mounted.

re: The tagged issues

CAMEOS - Winnipeg 2 Bar, Wide and Narrow Bars in Margin, Winnipeg 2 Bar F paper, Winnipeg Centre Bar (4 mm & 8 mm), Winnipeg Split Bar (5 mm and 9 mm), Winnipeg 1 Bar at Left, Winnipeg 1 Bar at right

1964 CHRISTMAS - Winnipeg 2 Bar (Dull & F paper - Wide and narrow bars in margin)
1965 CHRISTMAS - Winnipeg 2 Bar

CENTENNIAL DEFINITIVES - Winnipeg Centre Bar, Winnipeg 2 Bar, Winipeg Right and Left Bar, General Tag 2-bar
Many different paper & gum types

OP4 tagging was used by BABN until it was found to be migratory. The OP4 tagging will migrate onto other stamps. It fluoresces yellow under ultra-violet light. This type of tagging was used on all copies of #560p and #561p and some of the numbers #544p-s and #594-598.

The regular Scott catalogue does not even begin to cover the number of tagged Canadian issues.

If you can get a hold of the Unitrade Specialized Catalogue of Canadian Stamps this catalogue goes into much more detail and there are excellent illustrations shown of the different taggings.

Wow, Liz you are so helpful to type all that info. What a gal! Applause

Copy - I'll contact you when I get back from vacation next week and send a scan of the Unitrade info. This has piqued my interest and I'd like to re-read that section myself. My catalog is older, but it shouldn't matter with those issues. If I forget ( oh yeah that NEVER happens LOL) just message me.

re: The tagged issues

Hi--another source for information on Canadian tagged issues is the website run by Robin Harris--he is the Editor of the Unitrade Canadian specialized catalog. The site is www.adminware.ca/stamps

From there go to the link for Tagging error database--this provides a means of looking at various tagging errors but also provides lots of detail including illustrations of the various tagging types.
This site also provides a wealth of knowledge on the various Canadian definitive series--
Hope this helps
Bailey

re: The tagged issues

Thanks Patches! Sounds complicated! I went ahead and ordered a 2012 copy of Unitrades catalog which will hopefully explain the differences from issue to issue. I'm not interested in errors but stamps which were issued in more than one format. I guess that will include booklet ones versus sheet stamps and various perf varieties. Also noticed that some coils were issued in more than one format. This is going to keep me busy for a while.

Thanks again for the help!!

re: The tagged issues

I know this thread is old, but I have to ask...some of my Centennial Queens look like tagging fluid has been splashed on them. In addition to regular 2 side bar tagging. Can anyone shed any light on this? Is it just migrating tagging? Or was there an accident in the tagging room? Happy

I'd love to post an image, but have no idea how to post a UV image on here... Sad

Not real familiar with foreign issues, but - to those in the know - isn't this referred to as "mottled tagging?"

Seems I read that somewhere.....

hs2oca:

Sounds like migrated taggant.

The Winnipeg tagging migrates all over everything... album pages, other stamps, etc. It can somewhat be contained in mounts.
