I'm having trouble understanding how the 2021 Scott catalog lists prices (see image below). For J83, it lists the mint value of the stamp to be ".40". Then it says that the never hinged value is ".60". Skip a line below and then it says that the never hinged value is also "4.50". I am confused as to which price corresponds to what.
The catalog is telling you that a Plate # block of 4 has a value of $3.00, but if that same plate block has never been hinged, then it has a value of $4.50.
The $3.00 value is assuming that the plate block has been hinged.
.40 = single stamp, mint with hinge mark
.60 = single stamp, mint with no hinge mark
3.00 = Plate block of 4, mint with hinge mark
4.50 = Plate block of 4, mint with no hinge mark
i love this site, because folks are free to ask questions, and our peeps answer them, sometimes building on the previous answer to expand and make things just ever so clear.
thanks so much Linus and Mel. It's wonderful we're such an inviting resource.
