I have about 200 c23's and I was wondering if anyone has a fool proof way to find a C23c in that bunch it it even exits?
What can I compare a C23 to to see if it is a c23C?

You can compare it to an ultramarine stamp that was issued around the same time period as C23. They exist. They are much easier to find unused than used. Thus, you'll need a certificate for proof of a genuinely used copy.

An example posted on SCF...

Standard 'close to worthless' disclaimer about the online images.

C23c are not common and the only way to determine is to compare to a certified one in hand. I would add that trying to ID a used one (which by definition has been soak and Lord knows what other color changing environmental conditions) would be titling at windmills.

You certainly can find some color differences in a large group of used stamps...but then what? The only way to know for sure is to spend money sending them to be certified.

Are there known plate numbers associated with the "c" color variety?
