re: Scratch in chin flaw

Just looking at my Unitrade Specialized Canada catalogue.

The 2c deep red "Arch/Leaf" issue (Scott # 165) has a couple listed variations, but no "scratch on chin".
...165ii - Major re-entry in Canada and Cents.
...165ai - Extended moustache.

The scans are just a duplicate, so unfortunately no comparative value, but regardless...

The marks at the top of the stamp line up width-wise with the scratch on the chin. I don't know the printing process and how that might lead to this, but given that there also seem to be some ink "smudges" could the cause be from some excess ink and/or a foreign body?

Certainly cool and unique since it's not a listed "flaw/error". So maybe it's a "one-of-a-kind". Perhaps worthwhile to send the scan to Unitrade and get their opinion?

Dave.

re: Scratch in chin flaw

I seem to remember a similar mark appearing on a US stamp - a 1966 5 cent Washington coil from the Prominent American series Scott #1304. Copies were sold in the philatelic press as an unlisted variety or error. As it turns out the mark(s) were caused by the coil vending feeder mechanism.

re: Scratch in chin flaw

Hi everyone regarding the Scratch in chin flaw which some of our members told me to send to have it checked out which I did and this is the response I received:

Hello Stanley,

Sorry for the delay...busy time of year.

Coupled with the marks in the upper margin, I would say this is likely a kiss print, wherein the sheet printed after this one dropped onto this sheet picking up some still-wet ink on its back, then when this sheet was shuffled back into the pile, deposited the wet ink on the front of this sheet. This is a non-constant variety which will never end up in Unitrade, as there is an endless quantity of non-constant varieties out there.

I hope this helps.

Best wishes and season¹s greetings,

Ralph

What do the members think of this response, I already have some people who already saw this response say they do not agree with it.
