Canada/Stamps : !999 Low Value "Trades" definitives.

These were originally printed by Ashton Potter, and subsequently ( some) by Canadian Bank Note Company.

Is there any way of identifying the printer on single postally used stamps? According to the "Adminware" websites both printers used the same paper, and so any differences are likely to be shades, as I have not seen any reference to perforation differences.

I have googled extensively and cannot find any tutorial on telling these stamps apart -most sites don't mention the different printers at all.

Obviously dated copies from before the issue of the CBN stamps will positively ID them as Ashton-Potter. Unfortunately the reverse cannot be proved. Does anyone know of a foolproof method, or better still a website which explores this issue in depth?

I know that these are all low in intrinsic value but cheap stamps are as deserving of study as the expensive.

My 2011 Unitrade catalogue notes 'It is not possible to differentiate between singles of APCL and CBN stamps.' The catalogue does not give values for mint or used CBN singles. Later printings of CBN did have selvedge differences. Perhaps later catalogues have more information.

Thanks for that. I was sure that if they were distinguishable the Adminware site would have mentioned it. However I did get some vague notion that perhaps that particular part of the site might be incomplete, particularly as the perforation was not indicated.
