Unlike a lot of "rookies" looking at a pile of stamps in a shoebox, or a couple dusty albums they inherited from Uncle Chester, I don't expect to find a "rare" stamp lat alone something "key" or just plain old "very high CV" (I'm assuming for most of us a $50+ CV stamp is awesome, $100+ amazing, and $500+ probably heart-attack inducing).
After a while I just expect to see "Minimum CV 25c" so the economics of the hobby don't really turn me on - it's more about the beauty of the particular stamps I find. However, quite frankly I do still get a bit giddy when I come across anything with 3 decimals (yes, including the decimal point as in "$2.65").
That being said, I think (relative to my $400 investment) I hit the Jackpot with my Canadian find (even excluding the hundreds of $ of random MNH and MH stuff). 2 Minkus Albums in pristine condition, loaded with MNH and which I'll keep for my collection; and a Harris which I have stripped over the weekend.
I don't have a Canadian catalog available so I'm going by a quick look at the StampWorld online site for approximate retail prices. These are all MNH semi-randomly picked from one Minkus.
So you tell me...am I close to recouping that $400 yet?
P.S. Some of the older ones I find still have the paper in the perf holes which (especially in photos) makes the perforations look a bit awkward. Should I pick those out or just leave them as is?
re: From The Hoard: High Denomination & High CV Canada
I think you recouped your original investment! You have gotten more then $400.00 just in fun and entertainment from this lot. I enjoy seeing what you come up with next. I like the Canada collection of stamps.
