Looks to be a Scott #151, but has a grill that measures about 10.3 mm wide and runs the entire length of the stamp. See the images. What do I have? Real or fake?
It's not a grill in the front-of-book sense. Rather it is a waffle-style cancel meant to prevent the stamp's reuse. Usually considered the same as cut or punch cancels by collectors, i.e. not desirable.
usrevenues, thanks for your quick response. I knew about the cut and punch cancels, but have never seen this type of cancel on any revenue. The more I look I can see that the holes and mounds are more rounded which would make it more of a waffle-style cancel as you say. My first, so will keep in my "unusual" category.
